The May ASHRAE meeting will be covering the topic of Surgical Site Infection. Steve McNattin with Precision Air Products Co. will be presenting results of an 18 month study aimed at helping engineers design operating room ceiling ventilation systems to reduce the risk of patient infection.
The speaker will discuss the importance of effective OR ventilation systems, explore whether minimum national ventilation standards & traditional thinking go far enough to protect surgical patients during the procedure, and show why test results are changing how design teams look at OR ceiling layouts.
Participants will learn –
o The importance of controlling airborne particulates released within ORs during surgery
o The 5-Ds of effective particle control
o Design methodologies based on severity of the procedure & susceptibility of the patient
o What to avoid when laying out OR ceilings
